If gates, customs, signposts are necessary from an administrative point of view, they are still subject to that malleability which should put them at the service of human life, instead of allowing them the role of instruments of pain, unjustified partition or oppression. Marielle Anselmo’s poetry points to this system of coordinates, to this necessary questioning of identifications - of all identities, even one’s own - through an incessant deconstruction of the bond between subject and place, as well as between subject and language; for even language, the only language I speak, does not belong to me. […]
