Conceiving life and the world through meaning: a tribute to László Tengelyi

Abstract

First, we recall some features of the «new French phenomenology»that L. Tengelyi thematized. Then we analyze two central issues of his thought : the rehabilitation of a phenomenological concept of meaning and, the search for a metaphysics of facticity. We present how L. Tengelyi reintroduced the issue of sense and its function in Tengelyi’s phenomenology. We then focus on the question of singularity, that Tengelyi summarized as follows: move from a diacritical phenomenology to an elementary phenomenological ethics by the concept of a self-division.
