Abstract

Paces. Una historia de la paz y del pacifismo understands peace not as a natural state or the mere absence of war, but as a historical, plural, and contingent construction. Through a broad historical, philosophical, and political survey, the book examines different ways of regulating and transforming conflict, as well as the development of pacifism. Its main contribution lies in «de-essentializing» peace without abandoning its normative dimension: forms of peace are imperfect and provisional, yet they can be studied, assessed, preserved, and expanded through practices, institutions, and subjects capable of producing them.
