Abstract

Manuel Garrido Jiménez played a decisive role in establishing logic and the philosophy of science within Spanish universities. He held chairs in Logic at the universities of Valencia, Autónoma de Madrid, and Complutense de Madrid, and taught several generations through his influential textbook Symbolic logic. He founded Teorema, a journal central to the dissemination of analytic philosophy and scientific thought, while promoting a rationalist and materialist outlook. He also created Limbo, a publication devoted to George Santayana, and undertook extensive editorial work. His intellectual career was likewise marked by several political, philosophical, and academic controversies throughout the later twentieth century.
