Abstract

The  figure  of  the  zombie,  from  its  African  origins  till  today’s

narrative   incarnation   exemplifies   how   horror   and   the

concept   of   the   other   are   formed   in   today’s   United   States

culture.   To   explain   the   impressive   success   of   zombie

apocalypse   narratives   at   the   present   time,   we   shall   look   at

the   construction   of   the   other   while   at   the   same   time,   we

shall   understand   the   kind   of   public   addressed   in   the

narrative  and  the  way  these  narratives  discuss  today’s   fears and  tensions.
