Abstract

Offered here is the prologue to the second revised edition of the book Logic for Humanists, originally published in 1981.

Logic for Humanists is intended as an introductory manual to Logic, aimed at people trained in the knowledge that is usually called Humanities, but without excusing the algebraic operational character, commonly associated with people trained in the knowledge called Sciences. To facilitate learning, many examples and proposed exercises taken from natural and literary language are used, accompanied by philosophical, ontological and epistemological reflections. The ultimate goal is to help understand the internal structure of computers which, despite their almost magical effects ¾by pressing a simple button, we can access a wealth of knowledge that only a few decades ago required an enormous search effort¾, is nothing more than the result of operations summarized in a binary algebra.
