Abstract
We briefly review the life and work of Gaston Boissier (1823-1908), who belonged to the great generation of scholars who regenerated historical studies in France during the second half of the 19th century. Of all of them (Renan, Taine or Fustel de Coulanges), Boissier has always benefited from the public's favor both for his monographs and for his articles, many of which appeared in the Revue des Deux Mondes (1829-). Its success is also explained by the large number of translations into Spanish, both in Spain and in Latin America. Finally, we will present, as a presentation of the translation of his work on the idea of humanitas, his conception of history that will be traced in his writings, since he never presented it in a systematic way.
