Abstract
The purpose of this article is to determine the characteristics of the concept of rationality underlying the Cultural Industry typical of this period and which we can guess that is still present in the context of economic and moral crisis that presently shakes us. The intention expressed in this article tries to explain the relevance of the critique of absolute and instrumental rationality specifically, by Adorno and Horkheimer, as well as describe the sterility of their alternative proposals. However, we will outline the appeal to transcendence, typical of late phase of these authors, as something that can open the way to overcome both capitalism and hedonistic materialism.
