Abstract
At the end of the fifties, Paci’s interest on
contemporary architecture produced some
originals reflections included in different
writings, which are the product of his intense
collaboration with the architect Ernesto Nathan
Rogers. This paper reflects on the central
aspects of the strong influence of Paci’s
phenomenology on the latter, i.e. on the
relation
between continuity y renewal
understood in connection with the relation
between utility and beauty. For both, the
“function” is not a technicality, as well as the
“beauty” is not a formalism. Paci knows that
for Rogers “utility” and “beauty” are not
antinomian elements, but crucially synthesize
the “drama” of architecture.
