Abstract

The second chapter of Hösle's influential book on the philosophy of the ecological crisis (a book that already came out in six languages) deals with the five main determinations of the relationship between nature and humans in the intellectual history of humankind and particularly the differences between the ancient and the modern scientific revolution. He shows in detail how the Cartesian turn rendered the ecological crisis possible and suggests an objective-idealist alternative in the conception of nature and humans.
