Abstract
One of the most outstanding aspects offered by
German idealistic thought to contemporary
ontological reflection lies in the way in which
such thought broaches the question concerning
immediate knowledge as the furthest
foundation of all knowledge in general. The
present study analyzes the treatment received
by the concept of immediacy in the context of
Fichte and Schelling´s ontological and
epistemological reflections (in which they play
a decisive role), moving on to show how the
results provided in reference to it by both
thinkers, can be applied to the elaboration of a
methodological frame able to lay the
foundations of ontology as a philosophical
discipline. Observed from this point of view,
the ontological discourse would require the
justification
of an ultimate unprovable
principle that, in accordance with our
hypothesis, could be found through the
examination of the notion of immediacy.
