Abstract
Some similarities between critical rationalism and
theoretical pluralism are shown in this work by analysing
Paul Feyerabendʹs early ideas exposed in his 1962 paper
“Explanation, reduction and empiricism”. These will be
connected to Karl Popperʹs 1957 work “The Aim of Science”.
Feyerabend admits that Popperʹs article had a significant
influence on his ideas, though it was “a starting point of
criticism, not of repetition” [Feyerabend (1962), 47]. After
considering both points of view, it is indicated what an
important aspect of scientific progress inconsistency
between theories is when the positivist principles of
derivability and invariance lose force.
