Abstract

The Jesuit musicologist Giuseppe Pintado published in Rome in 1794 Vera idea della Musica e del Contrapunto, a “musical grammar” duly reasoned and based on which establishes the differences between languages and music. The text, although of secondary importance in comparison with other coetal studies, is part of the humanistic production of the Spanish Universalist School of the 18th century and supposes the defense of music as an autonomous language.
