Abstract
We expose the global, encyclopaedic and holistic approach that both, the eminent Spanish scholar Juan Andrés and the German naturalist Alexander von Humboldt adopt in their methodology. Their mutual references are then analysed and assessed in a variety of texts. Humboldt cites Giovanni Andrés' study of the Antilles archipelago (Paris 1834) and Andrés reviews Humboldt's studies on biogeography, galvanism, etc. (published in Parma 1822).
