Abstract

This   paper   sets   out   with   the   question   Einstein   made   to

Freud  in  July  1932:  «Is  there  any  way  of  delivering  mankind

from  the  menace  of  war?»   80  years  later  that  question  forces

itself  upon  us  with  urgency  since  it  hasn'ʹt  been  yet  properly

answered.   Futhermore,   the   traditional   concept   of   war   has

swich  into  eternal  war   or  neverending  war.  This  paper  features

Wittgenstein'ʹs   and   Simone   Weil'ʹs   reflections   on   their

experience   at   war.   Lastly,   it   includes   the   conception   of

Umberto   Eco   of   war   as   a   taboo   as   a   possible   solution   for

such  a  tragic  phenomenon  as  war.
