Resumen
El resurgimiento de las propuestas teleológicas en el ámbito de la filosofía de la ciencia se debe, en gran medida, al problema que la noción de función biológica suscitó entre científicos y filósofos. Esta noción, cara a la ciencia biológica, parece no ser comprendida por las nociones de causalidad o explicación científica contemporáneas. Mientras que la concepción de causa en la ciencia es principalmente la de causa eficiente, la de función haría referencia a la causalidad final, por lo que representa un problema a la filosofía de la ciencia, cuya prerrogativa es el rechazo de toda finalidad y su metafísica correspondiente.
Así es como durante la segunda mitad del siglo XX surgen algunos modelos de explicación científica que intentan solucionar este problema.
La propuesta de una teleología de matriz aristotélica, desarrollada en los últimos años, avanza en esta dirección. Se trata de un aristotelismo renovado que proporciona algunas claves que solucionarían el dilema teleología-función-causalidad y estaría exento de los inconvenientes que la ciencia quiere evitar con las explicaciones teleológicas corrientes.
