Abstract
Numerous texts related In the social and
human sciences insist on the idea that several
aspects of contemporary culture (the media,
psychopathology, art) bear the stamp of a loss
of meaning and reference which some authors
define as a « desymbolization » or with a
similar word, When one studies these lexts
closely one finds out a vast multivariousness
of points of view and above all quite a few
contradictions. This paper insists more
specifically on a research carried out on the
various paths of thought fiable to have started
such contradictions. Its major aim is to stress
the existence and nature of a new approach,
too often imperfectly known, of the concepts
of « meaning » and « reference » which, as
they open new paths of interpretations, enable
one to rest the question of desymbolization on
conceptuel bases that will be more adequate.
